ACF Car Finance
Good:
They can help you rebuild your credit if you struggled in the past
Bad:
Have limited cars at the showrooms and their interest rate is quite high
Verdict:
Be aware of this company, they will say you have been accepted to get you to their showrooms - do not go unless you know they have the type car you want
ACF Car Finance allow you to get finance and a car in the same place. They have 7 showrooms across the UK with a selection of vehicles. They do specialise in helping people with a poor credit rating. If you haven't got a way of getting to one of their showrooms, which are based in: Leeds, Manchester, West Midlands, Bristol, Dunstable and Maidstone, then this lender might not be suitable.
To apply, complete their online form and one of their advisors will contact you to arrange a day for you to visit a showroom. You will need to take your documents with you (see the list below). When you get there, they will show you the cars available to see if you like any of them. If you do, you are able to test drive the car of your choice. If you like it and think it's the car for you, they will take you back inside to complete the paperwork. Once the paperwork is completed, you are able to drive away in your new car that same day.
If you have bad credit, absolutely no options and you need a car at short notice then ACF Car Finance may be the best option for you. But, if you can get credit elsewhere, it may be worth having a look around. Their representative APR is reasonable considering they don't do any credit checks. The amount of cars they have at a showroom can be limited so if you have a certain car in mind, make sure you ask them how many they have at that particular showroom. Their customer service is notoriously bad so don't make any plans for the rest of your day as it may take ages. On the other hand, they will clean the car for you, it comes with an independent MOT and 136 point vehicle quality inspection and you could drive away with a car that day. If you go into arrears on payments though, they do have the authority to repossess the car. You will not get it back and you will have to continue making payments
Please be aware that you must be living in England or Wales to apply to ACF Car Finance.
Funny that people on here do not explain what their credit history is, you have proven yourselves untrustworthy thats why no one else will touch you.You are upset with yourselves. If you goto a prime dealership to buy a BMW 3 years old, it would cost you£280 a month.....get a grip......
These people are total cowboys... the initial dealing with them was encouraging, then suprise suprise it all went bad, to start with they kept avoiding telling me what they would lend me, and what the re-payments were going to be, i had my mind set on a bmw, which they said would be no prob, then the stories started, ie the 1 i liked was sold, and they couldnt find another to fit my price range, which they said was £325 a month, told me my old car would be used as a full deposit, they talked me into going back to look at a few cars they had just had delivered, the cars were tatty, scratches, small dents, scuffs and high milage, i became interested in 1 car, a peugeot 308 1.6 2008, was about to do the deal, untill the figures came out, i nearly fell off the chair. £325 a month over 59 months, thats a pay back of £19.195 for a car thats worth £7000 + £200 dep on top of my car, i walked out rapidly..even if your really desperate do not deal with these fools, they get you there with all the jargon, then sell you a battered run of the mill car at the highest price poss, who in their right mind would pay £19000 for a £7000 car. not me im a few steps ahead of them so make sure you are, oh yeah i have a feeling they get prestige cars in as a ploy, i wanted 2 of the prestige cars they had, they told me at first that they were sold but 2 days later they are still sitting in the showroom and then they said i couldnt as they would be around £325 a month but are more than willing to charge me £325 a month for a 1.6 peugeot, something is very wrong with this so called caring car finance company,i just hope i dont meet any of these salesmen on the street ........................
these people should be avoided at all costs no matter how bad you want a new car they lie cheat and scam they tell you what you want to hear on the phone PLEASE DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE
Well usual story had a saab 07 plate just wanted a 3 door sport hatch all was good they agreed to settle my existing finance & then i could re apply for a new finance, BUT GUESS WHAT they tried to sell me a pick of five cars all older than the one i took all nearly double the milage of mine & to top it they were going to clear my £4,100.00 existing finance & offer me a car of the same year but with 78ooo miles which is 20000 more than mine for nearly £ 3000 pounds more i would have had finance for about 13,000.00 ripoff be careful they might seem nice but they are paid on what they sell & once you leave the warehouse theres no turning back
I bought a car and had so many problems i ended up having to buy a second banger to get to work as it was in the garage for weeks as they were too tight to send it to the manufacturers for the electrical tests it needed. I tried to give the car back and cancel but they wouldn't have it. Now I am left with a crap car and a huge loan to repay........complete pirates avoid at all costs
Came back from the bristol branch today with my boyfriend. Flippin heck, what a joke!!! The sales people are full of s**t!! Applied for a car loan on carloans4u.com and they came up with these people. On the carloans4u website, it states any car from any dealer in the country, blah blah!! they put me onto ACF car finance. Of which I got all excited when they said congratulations to my credit. This was a week ago when ACF car finance arranged an appointment with me to go to their office in Bristol, 2 and a half hours away from my home address.I asked on the phone how many cars they had in the show room? could I afford a golf tdi? (which is what i really wanted) how much credit i had to spend etc? They said they had 50-60 cars in stock ,loads of golf tdi's (which is their best seller) and that i could pretty much anything in stock and drive away the same day! Went there and there were 15 ? cars in stock, no golfs and the same sales woman that i dealt with on the phone told me i could not afford a golf anyway!! and that i would have to pay 44.9% apr!! so we said, why did u not tell me that on the phone, she replied, cos u would not come otherwise!! well no, course we wouldnt. After putting £60 in fuel to get there and it took all day!! my partner was not best pleased with the sales pitch!! THEY SHOULD BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS, no matter how desperate you are, do not go to these people!!! I have contacted Trading Standards too...
This company is a con the goverment needs to do something about this they are sharks, what a huge rip off.
i bought my car in oct 10 i went back with it a few time for an engine or gearbox problem acf sent me to a garage to sort it all i got was they cant find anything wrong now iam left with finance to pay and a car with an engine or gear box problem . my warning is dont buy a car off acf finance you will only end up with a nackered car
I was looking at using acf because of my bad credit rating after being made redundant and having a hard time of it. Thanfully work is now good but credit rating is still bad. We wanted a newer car everthing was going ok but then I spotted the interest rate on these car loans 40 flaming percent, talk about kicking people when they are down. Decided to keep the old car
We got a car from ACF bristol branch in January 2010, and were told at the time that we could swap the car in afetr 18 months for something smaller/ cheaper. I have just called the main dept about this, and they've exlained that this has now changed- we are not able to swap car in until Jan2013!!!! We cannot afford to keep the car for another 2 years @ £250 per month especially for a 2006 reg Clio. The woman I spoke to was extremely rude, and extremely arguementative! DON NOT USE THIS COMPANY- WAIT UNTIL YOU CAN AFFORD TO BUY A CAR OUTRIGHT OR IMPROVE CREDIT RATING FIRST!!!!!
Got a 55 plate Fiat Punto with 13,000 miles on clock from Bristol showroom. Drove back to Cardiff before realising the car wasn't taxed! The logbook had previous owner information tippexed out!! Had to do battle with ACF to get new logbook and tax off them - car meanwhile sat in driveway, not legal to be on road. Had nothing but problems with car - starting with total power steering failure. Thank God for the extended warranty we took out (and paid through the nose for). Next was the gear box cable that snapped. Followed by the exhaust falling off at a very busy roundabout. Gearbox went again. All electrics on car are knackered; fuel gauge reading empty even after putting petrol in, have no idea how much is in tank! Now the gearbox cable has snapped again. Tried to get electrics fixed with the extended warranty as it should of run until this month, ie. 6 months off ACF (legal requirement) then paid for warranty for 2 years kicking in. When rang about warranty to get electrics done last November, was told warranty had expired in October. According to ACF, their 6 months legal warranty requirement ran concurrently with what we'd taken as extended!!!!! Rang a consumer helpline and had it confirmed that that is NOT how it works, so currently doing battle to get car fixed by ACF. Can't return the car to them as it is not a HP agreement, and everytime they somehow work the finances out so that there is negative equity on the car despite the early settlement figures quoted in paperwork. AVOID THESE SHARKS AT ALL COSTS - BUY A PUSHBIKE IF YOU CAN'T GET FINANCE ELSEWHERE!! P.S. My car comes with cd player as standard - but the car I got off them has a tape player! Anyone know where I can buy cassettes?!
THE TITLE SAYS IT ALL....I WAS AMAZED HOW SIMPLE THE PROCESS WAS AND PLEASED THAT EVERYTHING WAS EXPLAINED PROPERLY AND IN PLAIN ENGLISH..MANY THANKS TO PAUL AT DUNSTABLE FOR HIS HELP AND TIME....

I was contacted by this company when I had applied for a car loan. I had never heard from them before and what I was being told on the phone seemed ok. I was told that I had been accepted for a car loan and all I needed to do was go to their Mansfield Branch with my documents and they would show me what cars they had in stock and I would be driving away in one the same day unless it needed to come from another branch. (I was slighlty niave as I had done this with my previous car). I asked three times if this was true as Mansfield was 140 mile round trip. Three times he said absolutly as long as I had a full driving Licence. I asked how much deposit I needed and was told £0. So along I went to the Mansfield Branch - when I got their the person I was seeing wasn't in as it was his day off (although he had personaly called and booked the appointment). I gave my documents to the lady instead who took them to copy. Then back she came with documents for me to sign. She then disappeared for sometime, when she came back she asked what deposit I had fetched with me. When I told her nothing as I was told I didn't need one she tutted and said I needed a minimum deposit of £500. I found this strange and so decided to think about it. I went back an hour later and said ok to the deposit - however I wouldn't sign anything until I had absolute guarantee that I was able to have a car. She said she couldn't guarantee until I had paid the deposit. I asked that she tried and I would speak to the finance company. 30 mins later she came back and said I couldn't have finance as my outgoings were to high! Again found quite strange and so asked who the finance company were. The company were called Cygnet. I googled them so I could contcat them and kind of got my answers from there! I urge people not to go to these - they are a waste of time. I went to an approved dealer in the end and got my car from there. I urge anyone that doesn't have that option to wait until they are in a better position. This company prays on those that have little money!
I would not recommend these people to anyone. I went to the Manchester branch and was seen by Paul. He has the gift of the gab, knows all the correct sales spiel to give you in order to suck you right in!!! I went there wanting a Vauxhall Astra and was told on the phone before going that they had a lot of Astras for me to see. After waiting in the sales room for hours, and sorting all the paper woork out, I was eventually led to the forecourt(if you can call it that!!) There were 2 Astras there. One however was the same type as I wanted. I took it for a test drive (not very far though) and was quite happy with it. However I noticed an icon on the dash of a spanner and was told by Paul that it meant it was due for a service. So I bought it. On my way home black smoke came billowing out of the exhaust on the motorway, so I went to the next available service station and rang ACF. They were no help! I was told I couldn't cancel and I had to keep the car!!!! Even though I had only left them 45 mins before. I had to wait 3 housr for them to collect the car, and another 3 weeks for them to return the car to me!!!! I still had to pay the finance even though I didn't have the car!!!! Never again!!!
I was looking at buying a Peugeot with ACF but they showed me one way above the price I was willing to pay. I told them the price I would pay for it and the salesman went and consulted with someone else. When he came back he told me he could do that price at 45.9% APR. Granted, I should have checked but with the APR the total repayments amounted to more than the initial value they tried to sell the car to me for. Be aware!
I hadn't been in the country long and I realised that people wouldn't lend to me because of this. The saleswoman was so helpful and explained that being high risk meant higher payments. I was not pushed into anything and the advice was completely impartial. I really felt like she was there to help and cared about my position. Would recommend to anyone!
I visited the Bristol branch and I was slightly apprehensive as I had been turned down by another car finance company. The salesman at Bristol was so funny but always straight to the point. He explained things very well. I paid a little bit more than my budget but I got the car that I wanted and I drove away very happy. These people are here to help you if you have bad credit!
