First Response Finance

Summary

Good:
Can help you rebuild your credit if you have had problems in the past

Bad:
APR is quite high and there are certain restrictions on the cars you can get finance on

Verdict:
Car and motorbike finance for people with bad credit histories so high interest rate is expected - very good reviews across the internet about quick and friendly service

First Response deal in car and motorbike loans for anything between £1000 and £10,000 over a repayment period of 18-48 months. First Response can offer you a service even if you have previously been declined for credit.

You can apply online for a First Response Finance loan or over the phone. During the application you will tell them what car you are looking to buy, they'll then value it for you for free to ensure you are not paying too much for the vehicle. There is the option for single or joint applications. They liaise with the dealer directly for you about the financing of the vehicle. They will also provide a FREE check to ensure that the car has not been stolen in the past or been subject to an insurance write-off. If you are looking for a particular car they will help you find it through a list of reputable dealers in your area.

The APR is quite high. They are limited in terms of what car you can finance. On the plus side they do a lot of leg work for you with the dealer. Previous customers have explained that they are impressed with the customer service and the people they have dealt with. Overall, they're worth a look as they can be a really good option for a finance deal (especially if you don't have the best credit) and you don't have to pay a deposit like some other car finance dealers.

How much will it cost to repay a First Response Finance?

ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE... returned my car to them after losing my job. Thats when they turned nasty... REALLY nasty. They constantly harassed my wife at work until she cried, claiming we owed them money !! Then they phoned/harassed my neighbour who is 83, this happened in 2010 and is still going on now - after 2 years !! They constantly phone my new employer - every week, still threaten me with court action which incidentally they have never had the guts to go to court ! There policy is to bully, harass, intimidate CONSTANTLY ! NEVER use 1st response they are a bunch of gangsters

i thought first response were very intrusive. They got up my credit file and asked questions about my credit score and my past. I would not recommend these people to anyone and i think its rude the way they are. Other companys will look at your credit and decide where as these people want to know your whole history.

I know nothing about cars so took someone I did with me when I went to look. It's not First Responses fault if there are unscrupulous dealers out there (honest carsalesman - ever heard of one?). I have a bad credit history but First Response could not have been more helpful, the whole process was quick and simple and I will definitely be using again.

"Good company" caroline , ayrshire
I got finance from this company nearly 2 years ago for my car as I had bad credit rating. Women who dealt with me was really helpful. I make my final payment in march and they have contacted me to ask if I want a loan. Im definately thinking about it and it would help repair my credit rating even more. Dont know if im missing something here but the people who have had a bad experience, are you going to reputable dealers and doing your research??

after reading such bad reports on this company i had to add to the reviews.but mine are very good reports .i went to luton and see a lovely little daewoo matis and it only had just over 28 000 miles on the clock.it came with a full mot and 3 months tax.what a bargin, and a great price too, just under 2,grand.i had bad bad credit history ,due to my break up of marrige ,but they saved my working life,by lending me the money over 2 years at just under a 130.00 per month.they were a very helpful lot of people and so were manor park motors where i purchased the car from.im very sad for people whom have had such bad issues with this company, but i think you get alot of bad complaints from any company.and never read about the good ones thats why i have added my views here .

"2 YEAR NIGHTMARE" Jenny , Birmingham
I went with first response just coming up to 2 years ago and a lovely helpful guy called Christian recommended me to a garage called Ian Farrell. This is a garage that works along side First Response, I was encouraged to buy a particular guy, I wasn't in a great position as I had no credit rating so I reluctantly agreed, it went through quick from there, but the day after I had the car it broke down and the window fell out on the drivers side, I immediately made calls to first response and Ian Farrell who might I add asked me' what I wanted him to do about it ' first response were so unhelpful I presume because Ian Farrell sends a lot of business there way, the short version is I went back to the garage 18 times they could not fix the problem with the car my warranty ran out I had to pay over £1000 out my own pocket to fix a car that was rubbish the day I bought it, I felt mugged by these people who have made this whole experience a complete nightmare they couldn't have been less helpful, If you choose them to supply your finance you are taken a total chance on whether the goods supplied are any good or not, and of they are not you will hear a barrage of exscues ranging from, your unlucky, we can't tell every problem bla bla bla the fact is I spent so much time at that 'garage' with the mickey mouse mechanics that I can tell you I saw many atleast 7 other dissatisfied customers with a range of bizarre and irritating problems with their vehicles after owning them less than a week, I say look else where you are taking a rusk using this company a big one that could cause you huge stress, what I've wrote here is only a snipet of what I've been through

I took a car out on fiance in september 2011 three weeks in I found a lot of problems with the car and was going to cost me over £1000 pound to fix, taken frist response fiance mechinal brake down insurance out and extra insurance for any michincale problems when contacting frist response they would only fix half of the problems with car so Im still left with a large bill of the car to fix, was every unhelp full and said they would only fix the rest of my car when broken down but when this is to happen I could spoil all my engine due to a timing chain need tigting or new parts also said they would not help with this problem. I would suggest looking befor entering any fiance contract with them also have the car checked over befor signing any thing dont all ways believe what fiance company say and car dealer, still waiting for to be fixed in court battle with them and trading stander's involved but im with out a car for may be six months to a year till it is settled in court for repairs or out of the fiance agreement, no god to me I'm a nurse doing roation shift's so how am I meant to get to work and back, dont be cheated from them.

After reading the previous reviews I was unsure whether to apply with First Response or not but since I applied I soon realised that the majority of the negative reviews were specific to dealers that used them. They operate a 'preferred dealer' system which lets you choose from dealers who they actually vouch for. SInce I have got my car it has run like a dream and the payments weren't actually too bad in comparison to other lenders I applied to.

"Do Not Use" Debbie , Midllothian
Bought a car financed by first response, 2 weeks later car breaks down, finance company terrible to deal with, very unhelpfull only after your money still 4 weeks on and still no car. On top of that the car was supposed to come with full service history which apparently got lost in the post. So please do you research and have any car checked over also read all terms and conditions before signing anything, also after purchasing car i realised that they charged me some £1000 over the asking price according to Parkers car valuations.

"Very happy" Paul
I recently bought a car through first response, who explained my credit limit and everything, so the dealership works through them. APR high, due to my credit score, but must say they were extremely helpful finance over 36 months, not like ACF for 60 months! the veichle I have bought has service history, and a good buy. very pleased and would definatly use again.

"Very helpful but a bit expensive!" Lina
Good Points Accept applications from people with a less than perfect credit history. Very good customer services. Can take payments weekly from your account if monthly is a struggle. Beat the hell out of Welcome Finance! They finance motorbikes too! Bad Points APR starts off high (38%), but it comes down over time. Certain restrictions on the car you can buy. Has to be less than 9 years old, and no Japanese imports. Will only lend up to £10,000. General Comments I got finance for my car back in 2002 from First Response Finance. The APR was high (38%), but the payments were affordable. Since then I have paid off the first loan and taken out a new one. The APR has dropped to 28%, and I could go and find the car I wanted. They do an HPI check on the car, and they even check the value so you don't get ripped off by shady dealers. Once you find the car you want, there are a few hoops to jump through (fax wage slips, proof of address, etc.), but the dealer gets confirmation that the cheque is on it's way to them within 20 minutes of starting. If you are after a hard to find car, they will even find it for you. My loan will be paid off next year and I will be back with First Response once again.

"They only wanted my money" Phillip
I applied for car finance and never heard anything back. So I decided to call them. I explained my full situation and was assured they would be able to do something, I didn't want them applying for credit if it wasn't realistic. Then, to hear nothing back really was upsetting.

"Been with them for 8 years" Tracy
I have been with First Response Finance for almost 8 years and I've always found them polite and helpful, until now! I was looking to refinance to change my car. I asked them for a settlement figure and they said £2040 which equates to £140 rebate over the remaining 16 months, even though they are changing the APR. The lady was very impolite.

The first time I made contact with First Response, I was initially told that I couldn't get the finance on the more expensive car. But, the lady carried on and explained to me how much I could afford. I don't have a fantastic credit history but we built on it ready for our second car.

"They helped me get a better car" Azam Pasha
I sent my application to First Resopnse on Saturday night so I didn't expect to hear from them until Monday. In my impatience I called them Monday morning to be told I had been declined. They said they were going to refine my application and to call back in an hour. Within 40 minutes they called me back and I had been accepted for a loan but for a smaller amount which was perfect!
