Lloyds TSB Personal Small Loan

Summary

Good:
Application is straightforward and money can be transferred into your bank very quickly

Bad:
They are not sympathetic if you need to reduce your repayments due to sickness or unemployment

Verdict:
Lloyds TSB Current Account holders only - interest rate is not competitive and Lloyds have an extensive list of extra charges attached to their loans, shop around before applying

Lloyds loans are available only to Lloyds Account holders. Apply today for anything between £1,000 and £7,499. Lloyds offer repayment holidays on all of their personal loans, this is a great added feature that allows you to take a break from repayments if the money is needed elsewhere - bear in mind that interest still applies during this period. They decide how much they are able to lend to you based upon your current circumstance.

You can apply online or over the phone. If you are an existing customer and you apply in branch, the money can be paid out as quickly as 30 minutes after applying. If done online you may need to wait 24 hours. If you are approved, you will be asked to sign a loan agreement. Lloyds will only lend you as much as you can afford, this will be decided after they carry out a assessment of your circumstances. This does mean you will be credit checked and you may need to provide extra documentation such wage slips if necessary.

A standard £20 charge is issued on top of the charges you will receive for missing a Direct Debit though this can be expected with most of the main banks. Poor communication within the company has led to a few customers complaining about unfair charges being added to their account. With this in mind we would recommend making sure you get everything you agree with them during the course of the loan in writing. Only apply for this lender if you have a good credit history as they do not accept people who may have had late payments, CCJs or defaults in the past.

"Made a bad situation worse" Mr Gulliable , Upper Idiot
After banking with them for over 30 years i knew they had lost the customer relationship and now i was just another bod to extract more money out of and they certainly did that!! I was in debt (my fault - not theres). So i went to see them to help me out as i had hidden my head in the sand for too long and i could see it was getting worse. Ended up being TOLD i had to remortgage my house to the C&G who do their mortgages or else they couldnt help me. So like a fool i signed away for a new mortgage that was meant to free me of debt but in paying off my loan and debts i ended up in a situation where i couldnt afford the mortgage repayments as way too high. I did ask could i have a loan instead and told no because my credit rating was poor the only way was to remortgage. So for 2 years now ive only been paying the interest on the mortgage as i had to change it as couldnt afford it. Can't change mortgages because the small print revelas they will fine me MASSIVELY if i change lenders for up to 7 years. In short - don't get a loan with them and certainly do not go to them for advice to get out of debt or they'll just rail road you into a mortgage deal you cant afford.

"BORROWER BEWARE!!!" SHARON , NOTTINGHAMSHIRE
I have been TSB customer at the same branch for over 25 years and always had a good relationship with my bank. I made an appointment to enquire about a £5,000 loan to purchase a caravan, to be paid back over 2 years. The offer made was for me to borrow £5,000 and pay back £6,300 nearly 20% APR. I refused . A couple of days later whilst on TSB internet banking, out of curiosity I clicked on the loan icon and was amazed to find that at the click of the mouse I could have, in my account ,£5,000 to be paid back over 2 years and pay back a total of £5,490.48, at 9.5%. I felt as if the bank had attempted to rip me off, by not offering me their best deal. I had always thought that branch interviews were the best way to get the best out of your bank. The trust is gone. But on a brighter note I have my caravan!!!!!

"Tried to pull the wool over my eyes" Jenny , England
I've been trying to get a loan for a car for about 2 years, My bank phoned me up and made an appointment for me to see them about some account changes. The man that deals with me is quite young, and I felt a little at ease as I'm a young girl and he was really laid back. He said that if I wanted a loan I could have it, I jumped at the chance. He asked me how much I wanted which was just £4,000 and I said I wanted the repayments to be made over a period of 4 years. He then said that it would be a lot easier to up my loan to £5,000 as the car I was using the loan for wasn't brand new and if any repairs or problems arose then that extra grand would come in handy. He then calculated the rate and told me how much I'd be paying a month, it was a really low amount and I immediately signed on the doted line. When my documents arrived through the door, I learned that my loan was not for 4 years like I had asked but for 5years.. with a seriously high APR paying over £2500 interest back to my bank. Safe to say I was within my 14 days cancellation period and I hadn't touched my loan. I booked an appointment with my adviser and cancelled the loan straight away. The laid back - nice man was no longer friendly and I found I had a frosty response. Where I was told that i'd be lucky to find a loan else where as my credit rating was so low and that my bank was doing me a favor. I was then told on cancellation that I had to pay a fee of £20 because of the amount of days the money had been sitting in my account. But it doesn't say anything about a "fee" on your documents. And as for my loan ;-) I went on a comparison site where I'm now paying £600 interest for over 3years, much less than I first expected to pay and a relatively low amount being taken back each month. Thank you lloyds bank, but in future no thanks!

"Beware High Pressure Sellers!!" louisa , Wales
I took a loan with Lloyds over five years, the rates were pretty good (so I shall call this 'the hook.') I was pressured on a monthly basis to top the loan up after the first year, during the last four year period of the loan, the offers came in thick and fast. I had an overdraft and a small debt on their credit card, never defaulted on anything. Every time I visited the bank, the pressure was there, until I finally made them put a note on my account to leave me alone. At last, all went quiet. In the fifth and final year of the loan, the letters and calls begun again, "take a payment holiday", "top up your loan". It was never ending but each attempt fell on deaf ears and I kept them at arms length. Then another phone call, "we would really like to bring your interest rate down on your credit card and see if we can get you a better a deal!" So unfortunately for me I was intrigued, I did go to the appointment she arranged, sadly it was at a very low period of my life, and I sadly let them take advantage of that because I wasn’t thinking straight. With TWO months left of the loan, although I still had the very manageable overdraft and the credit card debt. I succumbed ….. Ended up signing up to another loan over SIX years with huge interest rates to consolidate the rest of the loan (two months) and just over 2,500 of debt and the lure of extra cash in my pocket, had just moved house which never comes cheaply. After being a Lloyds Tsb customer for many years, I have written this review to say please BEWARE. I am no pushover but add a bad set of circumstances we are all vulnerable. They are vulchers, unbeknown to me their idea of getting the interest rate down on the credit card was to sell me another loan. Whilst I did sign on the dotted line, I can only blame myself, but their pressure tactics are quite disgusting. Fortunately I did not fall for the payment protection plan, although the sales assistant was fiercely adamant it would be great for me. Again I can only reiterate please make your choice wisely and be on your guard at all times. I do not do my main banking with Lloyds TSB ~ I just have many years of monthly loan repayments to make at a much higher inertest rate.

Lloyds Loan no joke i must have had this loan now for 7/8 years first time i did re-finance and that was helpful but they are still saying i owe on account now!! At 1 stage they were taking 2 payments from me a month and when i asked for it back was told it was there error but they didn't want to do anything about it. I have argue with them for so long i am fed up i now have 2 payments left on the loan and can't wait to close everything to do with lloyds. What a CRAP Bank to deal with they don't care about there customers. DO NOT DEAL WITH LLOYDS these companies are still makign profit through the recession we the general public are bailing them out and they still have the cheek to charge us stupid fee's!!!

Terrible service from customer call centre- they want you to buy protection insurance, otherwise the loan gets referred - would recommend you look elsewhere and we've banked with them for 35years.

Lloyd's TSB loans are fair. The money is quick into your bank account. The only thing I don't like is the high interest rate and I have found it is harder to up your loan at a later date. I only applied for £1000 so this affected the APR but the speed of the application made choosing Lloyd's a good choice.
