Provident is the largest doorstep lender on the market and subsequently cover most of the areas in the UK. This means that they deliver your money to your house and they pick up your repayments from your house. They offer loans from £50-£500 to customers. It doesn't matter what type of credit history you have, they will generally lend to you.
The application process is simple, apply online and get a provisional decision. They will contact you to meet your representative within 48 hours, who will come to your home to complete the application form. They may be able to give you the cash on that same visit. If not, they will return to your home a couple of days later after speaking with their manager and give you the money then. All meetings with your representative are carried out at your home.
The APR may seem high but they are still a popular choice with our customers due to the fact they help people regardless of their credit history. Like all doorstep lenders, it's really important you keep up with your repayments and try and pay the loan back as quickly as possible otherwise the interest charges will make the loan a lot more expensive. Make sure you keep your repayment book up to date as this is your proof of repayment. Their agents work on a commission basis, so when it comes to making their money, they take it into their own hands. Also, keep a record of all the payments you have made via a payment book - there has been reports that agents have collected your money and then not reported the payment back to their manager - which makes you look like you haven't made the payment and effects your credit file. This is a lender that should only be used if you have bad credit and if it is your last option.

I got a few loans from provident and I was happily paying them off dispite the massive APR % rates. My agent would call everyweek and she was pretty much the only person who would visit my home. I had my older brother over my home often and she started to question if he lived there and if he was my partner! I said no, and she was keep on asking if he wanted a loan, again I answered no he doesn't live here. She then called the job centre saying I was living with my partner??!!!! I got so angry at this as like I said he is my brother not my partner and he used my home to escape my mother for a while. I thought well she can be greedy well I can too. I went to my local debt advice centre and now I am paying them £1.00 per week :D Don't like people in my home who I can't trust and are willing to do things like that for extra commission. So the lesson here is DON'T TRUST THESE PEOPLE THEY WILL TAKE YOUR EYE BALLS AND COME BACK FOR YOUR SOCKETS IF YOU LET THEM!!!

I have never had any problems with my Provident loan. My agent is brilliant and has become a friend of mine. She comes every week and shows me her booklet so I know my payments are being made. If I have no money on the day she usually comes (Tuesday) she is always in my area on the Friday so will call back. Yes the apr is high and I originally only got one as my ex husband left me with nothing but if I was in desperate need of cash again I would definitely go back to them

Please be careful when wanting to borrow money fron any company as well as this one. I have been with them for a short while now. In this time I have had 4 different agents and 1 very nasty manager. They promise to collect every week but don't then you end up looking like the bad one as the agents will say to their manager they can't get money of you or even try to transfer you back to the head office when as a matter of fact they forget to knock on your door and you end up asking them when they are coming, so not only are you paying high interest your also paying for the phone calls/texts to even get one to come to your house. This is bad enough but as I mentioned above "very nasty manager" which concerns me more than anything. The manager came to my door a couple of weeks ago with a new agent, she didn't introduce herself by name but made it very clear she was the manager. The new agent in front of the manager told me to leave my money in the book and put it into the gas meter cupboard and she would bring a key to unlock it. I was shocked at this as my property is very securely locked as I have 4 very large dogs, also anyone could follow her and then take everybodys money that uses this form of collection., how many people have got these keys for god sake! The manager just stood there and didn't even say it was a very bad idea. We eventually agreed it would be easier for me to pay over the phone. The manager gave me a number for Halifax and told me this was the office number. I did some research on the internet as I was concerned about the number and the head office is based in Bradford (01274). So on Monday 23rd at approx 10.30ish I made a payment to the head office number (0800), they were more than happy with the payment. At 3.20pm someone was banging on my door, when I opened it i saw the new agent, she told me she had come to collect payment, I told her that it was agreed by all of us that I would make a payments over the phone. She told me I had to make a payment now. I asked her not to discuss my personal business on my door step as I didn't want my neighbours knowing my business and asked her to leave. She then shouted to the manager who was in her car, the manager got out and shouted whats the problem. I explained again I had made payment over the phone to the 0800 number. She was very annoyed about this and said I should have phoned her. I asked both of them again to stop talking about my business on the door step and asked them to leave 3 times. I was then threatened by the manager. I have reported this to Provident who have assured me that they will investigate this, I have also reported this to the police of which now the manager has denied threatening me and the police also said whatever you do, do not put money into your gas meter box, they were very shocked that I had been told to do this. I am also going to report this to trading standards as this behaviour is not acceptable and is illegal. If you do borrow from this company or any other company and get abuse please do report it as this bullying behaviour is very unproffessional and these bullies are breaking the law.

Got a £150 loan of provident and paid it off no problems, then got a £300 loan from then and thats when the problems started. My agent started turning up every few weeks or whatever day she felt like and after about 6 weeks, she'd only turned up once (on a thursday not a friday) and been given the money. Then the following week she demanded the full 5 missing 5 weeks PLUS that weeks money. I told her no and that she should have stuck to the agreed dates, on the Tuesday of the following week a man in a suit who claimed he was a manager for Provident came and tried to threaten me into paying otherwise the baliffs would be involved. I shut the bottom door (I live in a flat with 2 doors) and stopped paying full stop.

hi i had a loan 2 years ago with provident with very hi interest hich is really bad for you and after i gave them all money back and i sold my car paid of all the loan and then after 8 months i find out this company took the money and they did not close and settle my account and now after this all months in my account showing 2 months late or 3 months late payment and i contact them they said we will remove this mistake but this company is rubbish and no one give you ansewer there mistake afected my credit score and my credit score from 830 drop to 600 and everyday i call them the lady she manage the chiswick area she doesnt have any idea what happend .i am fed up with this crap company they rip you with hi interest and make your life hell for there mistake i can not get a mortgage now i dont know what i do no one give me ansewer.?????

This company is a rip off,for the little amount of money you get honestly folks it isn't worth it.Look at how much interest the make! I got a small loan and had to pay back more than twice that,be very careful as if you miss a payment even for genuine reason's they will add even more interest so that that say £100 you borrowed becomes over 600 in a flash..I wish I had never done it, I wasn't even really needing it.. Honestly people,there are far better way's to get a loan than this company. Avoid if you don't want serious debt. anon scotland

I signed a few forms and she will come around each week to collect payment. The thing is people seem to be put off by the APR they actually don't make that much off you and you have 2 choices how many weeks you want the loan over etc. If you have a A* credit rating I wouldn't bother with this, but for people like me who hasn't it's ideal. Once my first loan has been paid off I will continue to use them.

This company carry out a legal form of daylight robbery. Some agents, in my experience, have taken money collected, and reported that the customer is not paying their account. With my account, I haven't received a payment booklet for over 18 months, and have only just found out that "Provident" haven't received my payments for 3 months, which money I HAVE paid the agent. However, I recently got into a bit of a pickle financially and having a bad credit rating I was unable to get a loan elsewhere. Provident has been great and the agent is very good. Yes the monthly payments are high but I can afford it as I work full time and it is getting us out of a tight spot.

If you have a poor credit rating I suggest you visit these guys, they are the only place you will get a loan. Regardless of their APR, they really don't get that much money from you and the agents are reasonable people.

When I took out a loan with Provident, I was aware of the high interest rates but that wasn't the problem! I hadn't received a payment booklet for over 18 months and I have just found out that they “haven't received” my payments for 3 months, which is money that I HAVE paid the agent. Be careful.
