Shopacheck
Good:
They will lend to people with a bad credit history and can help you rebuild your credit
Bad:
Hard to contact them and if you miss payments you will have bailiffs threatening you at your home
Verdict:
Stay away from this company, and similar companies as their high interest rate can get you into more debt and stress if you miss even one payment
Shopacheck offer a door to door lending option where customers can apply for between £100 and £500 loans. Their cash loans (which are delivered to your home) are offered over 1-54 week terms and a representative will come to your home to collect your repayments. This is an option that should only be used if you have a bad credit rating and cannot get a loan from lenders with lower APR.
The application process is similar to that of other door to door lenders. You can apply initially online. The application is fairly quick, you will be given an instant provisional decision and then they will contact you within a few hours with their final decision. If you are accepted you will have to arrange for a representative to meet you to finalise your application. Once you have met, your documents have been verified and you have signed the credit agreement, the money should then be brought back to your home within 3-5 working days. You will also be given a payment book - make sure you keep this up to date and log every single repayment you make.

The representative APR with Shopacheck is higher than that of other door to door lenders and they don't operate in as many areas as others. The interest charges are high, however if you have bad credit this may be one of the only options available to you. Bear in mind if you start missing payments the loan will become a lot more expensive so keep a close eye on the amount you are paying and try and pay the loan off quickly or at least over the time-scale agreed at the start. Its also not advisable to make repayments late as it is not pleasant to have people knocking on your door for money that you do not have. Not the quickest of loans to get paid out so maybe not the right option if you are looking for funds quickly. Only apply for this loan if it is your last resort.
Avoid like the plague. I was not in a collection area for the agent. So I suggested I leave him cheques on a four week basis. He told me he would cash the cheque every Friday. When he went on holiday without telling me HE CASHED TWO CHEQUES in one week. So once cheque bounced. Although, I have finished paying the loan shop a check want to charge me for the bounced cheque (eleven pounds) They ignore my letters. If I write to customer services it takes two months to reply. Sometimes the agent did not turn up. However, I got blamed for that!!! Save for what you want. they are a headache to deal with!
They are ok if you need the money desperatley! To me there no different to the other door step money lenders, I find them better than greenwoods or provident. They give you a loan whatever sort of credit rating you got. And they do not send baliffs out if you don't pay aslongg as you explain to them your situation there usually fine about it, but if you keep doing it what do you expect to be able to pay when you feel like it! The only downer is when you ring them and they can never put you through to your local branch! I've had one say to me they won't ring my branch through because its lunchtime I don't want to disturb them, I told him that its prefetic and he hung up! When I have rung up for a loan they have come out to me within 3days not weeks!
Have been with shopacheck for many years. I have bad credit, and can only get credit with companies like this. Yes the interest is high - but then they are lending to people that are a 'risk'. I have a lovely agent who has became like a friend, I have never, ever felt pressured or bullied, i have missed a lot of payments, yet ive never had threatining letters etc. I have a few loans per year from them. My agent will have the money by the next time he collects from me.
I am surprised that they get away with charging massive interest rates. These loans can get you serioiusly into debt, and are usually aimed at people who are on low incomes or benefits. I have had loans that total £1000, they keep offering more and more as I always pay on time. I told my door collector I want to clear what I owe and DO NOT want any more loans. Now she keeps asking me to have a shop-a-check credit card! NO THANK YOU, What, so you can drag me more into debt? i dont think so. You really are better off saving money yourself (what you would be paying in re-payments with a loan) PLUS, there wouldnt be the interest. its just not worth it for the interest they charge. These loan companies seem almost like 'loan sharks' They are borderline criminals! BE WARNED!! I guess if you are absolutely desperate, you have no choice but to take a loan, but make it a one off thing and refuse other loans they will inevitably offer you, especially while still paying off your first loan.
FIRST LOAN WILL ONLY BE £100,never be fooled that you will £500,So i had loan £100 had to pay back £160 @ £5 per week, had £30 outstanding she offered me another one,i thought yeah why not,OFFERED £100 AGAIN & NO MORE,SAID SHE COULDNT SAY WHY?!,i never missed a payment!!Gave me loan £30 Short,i asked why she said outstanding balance on other LOAN!!So i had loan for £70 & paid £160 back WTF!! PREY ON PEOPLE ON BENEFITS!! 2WEEKS TO GET LOAN U HAVE TO WAIT OVER 3WEEKS TO GET ANOTHER LOAN AS SYSTEM IS ALWAYS DOWN (CONVIENIENT?)
Took around five weeks to receive my actual loan. Collector did not turn up for a few weeks and I received a default notice. Sometimes cashes two cheques in one week. Then of course, they will add a charge if the cheque does not go through. I would only use this service in an absolute emergency. Once this loan is finished I would never use again.
i can not belive the intrest this rip off place is trying to charge. keep away shop around you can get door step lending a lot cheaper
COMPLETE RIP OFF EXTORCIONATE REPAYMENTS YOUD BE BETTER OFF SAVING FEW WEEKS AN MAKING UP THE 100 UD NEED RATHER THAN TAKE OUT ONE OF THESE RIP OFF LOANS AND END UP PAYING DOUBLE THE AMOUNT UVE RECIEVED BACK AN ALSO IT WILL AVOID YOU HAVE A IGNORANT PERSON CALLING ONCE A WEEK HAPPY DAYS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have to agree with Andy we no longer get the service we had when dealing directly with the local office, you could ring and speak to a manager and have an answer straight away now you lucky to get an answer at all. I also pay by debit card but I am not prepared to hold on whilst they try and put me through to the right person. Oh well think I'll get this loan paid and take my business elsewhere.
Just to update you all, I've now spent £30 on phone calls to this stupid new switchboard, only spoken to someone twice & I'm STILL waiting a call back from my branch. I again tried my old branch to see if they could get a message to my new branch & was told "Yes, we could, but we're not going to! You are no longer a customer of this branch, so you are not a concern for us any more!" Nice, really nice. Thing is, I have to contact them to pay my bill, let's see how quick they are to call me once it's over due eh?
I have an account with Shopacheck which used to be fine, until recently. You used to be able to call your local branch & get things dealt with when you needed them to be. But nooooo, that's to easy for the customer isn't it? NOW, you have to ring an 0845 number & arrange a call back! If you are lucky enough to get through (15 minute hold time on both occasions I've called) you then have to give your details & query, to be passed on to another team who will then pass it on to your branch. To add to that & make all this even more pointless, stupid & irritating, I have yet to receive my call back. I have the number for my local branch which I called, to be told that my account manager is now at another branch but they refused to give me a number! I wouldn't mind if I used my account badly but I don't & I was actually calling to give them more custom. I won't be bothering. Useless.
Like with all loan companies, Shop-a-Check do charge interest rates and they are quite high, an undercover television programme revealed that Shop-a-Check have a turn over of 150 million pound and they charge their customers a massive 440% APR on the £100 loans. Good Points Handy if you need a few pound in a hurry or if there is a special occasion coming up. Easy and quick to obtain a loan The loan is delivered to your door. Bad points The massive interest rates . They let you have more than one loan running at a time. Getting into debt. They make so easy for people to get loans, even if they cant afford to. I have been a Shop-a-Check customer for about six years now and while I find it handy to get a small loan now and again, I think they charge an unfair amount for interest and I would not have more than one loan running at a time. Apart from this I have never had any problems with Shop-a-Check, and my agent is really friendly and helpful. If anyone is thinking of using a loan company, shop about and get the best deal, there are bound to be cheaper loan companies out there.
I was really happy with Shopacheck's service, I got an instant decision from their online application and the money was delivered to my house within 3 days! Great company.
